SUMMARY:workshop: vegan challah from scratch
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nStarting from scratch, we’ll mix dough from six staple ingredients, add flavorings and mix-ins in several ways with different effects, and then braid. Everyone will choose if you want to learn how to make a round loaf or a 4- or 6- braid, or all three!\n\n \n\nEli cofounded the original chapter of Challah for Hunger while in college in California. The organization, now part of Mazon, has mostly campus-based chapters which bring together students to bake and sell challah. Each chapter donates half of its profits to CfH’s national partner, Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger, and allocates the remaining half locally.\nIn this workshop, you will\n\n* make vegan challah dough from scratch, with provided ingredients,\n* choose your extra ingredients for flavor and variety,\n* learn two or three challah braiding techniques,\n* receive Eli’s recipe for simple and delicious vegan challah,\n* learn about the background and tradition of challah,\n* hear about Eli’s tricks and tips for lazy baking and cleaning,\n* and leave with your braided loaves to bake at home (can then be frozen).\n\nYou must bring a baking tray to class. Please also bring a mixing bowl and wooden spoon for stirring. You will leave with braided unbaked loaves to bake at home. We recommend leaving unbaked loaves in your fridge for a few hours or overnight, and then baking.\n\n\n\nReservations required. No kids. Workshops are refundable up to 1 week in advance. 1 spot is for 1 person unless otherwise noted. Email hello [at] madeatcraft.com with questions.\nLooking for a private event?\nWe can schedule a private challah workshop for you, even a small group. Be in touch!\n\n\n\n#austinfood#austinfoodie#austinvegan\n\n\n\n\n
